Essential Level Courses

Essential level courses are designed for students who are having difficulty with the grade 8 curriculum. Any students who are functioning two or more grades below the grade 8 level should consider taking essential level courses.
A student can have 6 essential level courses count towards their diploma.
Students can take essential level in grades 9 and 10 and progress to the workplace level in grades 11 and 12. This level will not prepare a student for post secondary education but will prepare them to enter the world of work.
Please note: Students do not have to be identified to take essential level courses. Also, a student may take just one or all of the essential level courses.
- ENGLISH: ENG 1L1 Essentials Level (* English and Learning Strategies are offered as a 2 credit package, therefore a student must chose ENG 1L1 & GLE 10S).
- LEARNING STRATEGIES: GLE 10S Open Level
- SCIENCE: SNC1L1 Essentials Level
- MATH: MAT1L1 Essentials Level
- ENGLISH: ENG 2l1 Essentials Level
- MATH: MAT 2L1 Essentials Level
- HISTORY: CHC 2L1 Essentials Level
