The Visual Arts program at Port Perry High School offers students a unique opportunity to prepare for studies at the post secondary level. The program provides foundation studies in grades 9 and 10. Students have the opportunity to enroll in both Visual Arts and Photography courses in grade 11.

The grade 12 Visual Arts experience is both diverse and intensely demanding. Students may prepare for post-secondary studies by enrolling in either grade 12 Visual Arts (AVI 4M) or grade 12 Photography (AWQ 4M). Students may also enroll in a grade 12 Portfolio preparation course (AWL 4M, AWN 4M or AWP 4M) which allows them to specialize in a specific medium of their choice – either drawing, sculpture, printmaking or painting. Student-artists working in these diverse media are integrated within the same studio environment. Students enrolled in grade 12 Visual Arts and Photography programs are expected to present works for exhibition to the community at large on four occasions during the school year, including the Senior Visual Arts exhibition scheduled for the month of May each year at the Kent Farndale Gallery, Port Perry. On alternating years, up to 12 students are selected to show their artwoks at a region-wide exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa.

Over the past eight years, students exiting this program have pursued post-secondary studies in Visual Arts-related programs at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, the Ontario College of Art and Design, Concordia University, Sheridan College, York University, Fanshawe College, George Brown College, Algonquin College, Confederation College, Georgian College, Durham College, Seneca College, Nipissing University, McMaster University, Queen’s University, the University of Guelph, Ryerson Polytechnic University, the University of Waterloo, the University of Ottawa and the Emily Carr College of Art and Design.
